Your 80's Toys Could Be Worth Big Bucks

Really? Can it be that 80's toys are still valuable? Well, the short answer is - it depends!

If your children - or you - were big Star Wars or Barbie fans, and if you've got a secret stash of much-loved toys in the attic, now is time to take them out and clean them up.

Your 80's toys can really be worth big bucks.

Exactly how many bucks depends on the age and condition of the toy, and if it still has its original box, preferably unopened. A rare and sought-after item is, naturally, worth more.

The popularity of a toy – both at the time of the original purchase and at the time of re-sale – makes all the difference to its value. The most valuable toys in terms of re-sale are not necessarily those that are rare or unusual.

Actually, the highest prices are paid for boxed versions of 80's toys that were sold in their millions and played with until they broke. The few surviving toys, by their very rarity, are the most highly desirable to collectors.

For example, one limited edition of a Star Wars set, originally sold for $9.97, can fetch more than $400. Generally, girl's 80's toys aren't as popular, but the few that are – such as "My Little Pony"- appear to be very much so.

Sales on eBay and other sites, have previously posted record figures for toys. To give you an idea of what YOUR toys might be worth, our Life Daily team did some checking and came up with this list of known best sellers and their prices.

Toys for boys:
  • Mego "World's Greatest Superheroes" Robin Doll; Boxed with removable mask. $10,500

  • Kenner Star Wars Jawa action figure with Plastic Cape: $6,500

  • Mego "World's Greatest Superheroes" Batman with removable mask: $3,550

Some of these items were actually launched before 1980, but their popularity still remained as newer versions were introduced.

If these examples don't send you off to immediately rummage around in your attic or cellar, nothing will!

And if you come across some of your favorite 80's toys in the process, and they prove not to be worth much money, at least you have the memories.
