There comes a time in everyones working day when they just need to break the monotony and relieve the boredom
Anyone who works full time, especially those in offices know what it's like to be stuck in front of a computer screen for hours on end. It is very important that you make sure to take regular breaks from your work in order to stay productive and alert.
It is recommended that office employes take a break from their computer monitors or laptop screens and stretch their legs for at least 5 minutes out of every working hour
1: Listen to music
As well as being relaxing and therapeutic listening to music can actually help you to be more productive at work. Some people sit at their desk with headphones listening to music throughout their day while others use music to relax to during their lunch or coffee breaks. Music can really help to break up your day. Many people like to listen to some relaxing soft music while they work which can actually help you to concentrate and focus. It is also a good idea to listen to something lively, perhaps a favorite dance tune to get your blood flowing and your mind stimulated.
2: Declutter Workspace
Getting rid of the clutter at work is great for productivity and keeps you efficient but it can also be a great exercise in relieving boredom. If (like me) you are one of those people who lets your desk and office get real messy before you snap and start cleaning it's well worth checking out this great article by Joel Falconer of lifehacker.com offering some great tips on the best approach to take when decluttering your work space.
3: Get Smart
Furthering your education or improving your skills in a certain area is a great idea if you find you have spare time on your hands when at work. As most office workers have a computer on their desk and at least a tablet or smart phone in their pocket it's easy to access information on the web. Ever wanted to become an expert in something specific? Just 15 minutes a day on wikipedia could make you an expert in just about anything at all! There are even courses you can take online that can actually get you an extra qualification. An interesting prospect especially if you're looking for another job or to branch out into something different.
4: Read Books
Whether your preference is a nice hardback, an Ebook on your computer or a book downloaded onto your smart phone it's relaxing to read and to take some time out of your day for yourself. Nothing beats taking your book and a nice cup of coffee and sitting at your desk or changing your environment and sitting outside for a few minutes or during a break. If you are lacking inspiration and want some great book ideas check out this article featured on the nytimes.com website.
5: Create a Blog
Blogging is a great way to tell the world what's on your mind, even if they don't want to hear it! These days you can get yourself a good looking, easy to update blog, essentially your own website. As people find themselves increasingly stuck in front of their computers at work blogging is a great hobby and a great thing to focus on when you're bored. You can check out more in depth information about which platform you should use for your blog in this article on blogsites.us.
6: Surf The Web
Most of us have internet access from our computers at work. Even though some larger corporations are forced to regulate and even censor which websites their employees visit while at work. There is good reason for this due to internet security breaches and fraud but of course there is also another reason. One can waste many long hours on the web when they should be working. We hope that during your breaks you are free to do as you wish at work and surfing the web is a great thing to do when you are on break as long as you have made sure to get some water and stretch your legs. We suggest you check out David Parrack of makeuseof.com who has a great list of amazing internet resources to keep the boredom away.
